Puravi Panda

Biography

Puravi is a first year DPhil in Pharmacology student at Reuben College.

She recently graduated with a BSc (Hons) in Life Sciences from the National University of Singapore. Her final year project focused on investigating arginine uptake of high affinity cationic amino acid transporter 1 mutants, encoded by the SLC7A1 gene.

At Oxford, Puravi is under the supervision of Professor Frances Platt at the Department of Pharmacology. Her research focuses on a rare group of inherited metabolic diseases called lysosomal storage diseases (LSDs). Despite the prevalence of lysosomal dysfunction and aberrant degrees of inflammation in LSDs, there exist disease-specific differences in lysosomal dysfunction and significant divergence in the nature of the inflammatory profile between LSDs. Thus, her project focuses on studying these diseases-specific differences in the hopes of discovering potential targets for therapeutic intervention in LSDs.

In her free time, Puravi indulges in Odissi, a classical Indian Dance form which she has been learning since the ripe age of 5 years old. She also enjoys cooking and baking (@smoothiebowlsssss on Instagram!) and has recently started blogging her time at Oxford (@oxfordingmyway).
