Anjan Thakurta

Biography

Professor Anjan Thakurta joined Nuffield Department of Orthopaedics, Rheumatology and Musculoskeletal Sciences as Statutory Professor of Translational Medicine to lead research efforts at the newly created Oxford Translational Myeloma Centre (OTMC).

Previously, Professor Thakurta worked in the pharmaceutical industry in research, development and approvals of drugs and diagnostics in hematological cancers such as Multiple Myeloma and Acute Myeloid Leukemia. He led the collaborative industry-academia Myeloma Genome Project that helped establish the comprehensive landscape of newly diagnosed and relapsed and refractory Myeloma genome. His research interests at Oxford are related to identifying and translating disease and therapeutic insights for personalized care towards cure of Multiple Myeloma. He works on the discovery and development of novel therapeutics in cancer and neurodegenerative disease at a small biotech in Boston, Massachusetts.

Professor Thakurta got his PhD in genetics at Cambridge and did postdoctoral research at Harvard University and at the National Cancer Institute, USA.
